ABS WELCOMES MAST AS ABS CORNERSTONE SPECIALIST
DEFOREST, WISCONSIN - June 16, 2006 – ABS Global has named Rebekah Mast a ABS Cornerstone Specialist. "Rebekah has a sincere passion and wealth of knowledge in the dairy industry," stated Marci Walker, ABS Global's Global Progeny Development Manager. "Her strong background along with her prior ABS experience makes her an asset to the ABS Cornerstone Progeny Test Team." Mast grew up on her family’s dairy farm, Dirk-C Holsteins, located in Denair, Calif. As a manager’s assistant, her responsibilities on the farm include maintaining herd records and cow comfort focused facilities while administering various treatments to the herd. She has had great success at the state and national shows, including the 2005 California State Black and White Show where she claimed Grand Champion honors with her 3-Year-Old cow. This cow, Lylehaven Durham Marriet, was later named Reserve Junior All-American. In addition to working on the farm, Mast has held several other positions within the agricultural industry. She was the Secretary and Writer for Papermoon Designs, where she wrote articles for the California Holstein News, and a Technician Assistant for Taylor Veterinary Hospital. Mast recently graduated Magna Cum Laude from California Polytechnic State University where she earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Dairy Science and a minor in Agriculture Business and was an active member of numerous clubs. Before attending Cal Poly, Mast earned an Associate’s Degree in Dairy Science from Modesto Junior College. She was a member of both the Cal Poly and Modesto Junior College Dairy Judging Teams and had a very successful judging career including being named the high individual at the Accelerated Genetics Judging Contest and second high individual at World Dairy Expo in 2004. Last summer, Mast completed the ABS West Coast Progeny Promotions Internship. Her duties included tracking and preparing ABS Global dairy progeny for picturing and video opportunities. She also assisted with organizing and hosting daughter tours. In her new position, Mast will be responsible for developing and identifying potential new ABS Cornerstone herds while maintaining a relationship with current participating herds. She will also work with these herds and field staff to accurately identify efficient use of ABS Cornerstone semen. In addition to the ABS Cornerstone Progeny Test responsibilities, Mast will focus a portion of her time developing a working knowledge of the ABS Sire Acquisition Program and assisting with ABS Sire Acquisition on the West Coast.
