PLOETZ NAMED GMS INTERN
DEFOREST, WISCONSIN - May 24, 2006 - ABS has named Jackie Ploetz the Genetic Management System Intern for the 2006 summer. “Jackie’s deep agriculture background along with her appreciation for and commitment to the dairy industry will allow her to be very successful in this internship position,” stated Amy Knuth, GMS Manager. Ploetz is currently a junior at Cornell University majoring in Dairy Health and Management with a minor in Agriculture Education. She transferred to Cornell after attending the State University of New York-Cobleskill for two years where she majored in Dairy Science. Ploetz graduated from her high school, Cuba-Rushford Central School in 2003, as class valedictorian and maintained her high academics throughout college making the Dean’s List at Cobleskill 2003-2005. In addition to her academics, Ploetz has been extremely involved in the dairy industry. She has been very active in the New York FFA and Junior Holstein Association through which she has held numerous officer positions and been honored to receive several awards. She has served as the New York State FFA Secretary and State Junior Holstein Education chair as well as been named the high individual at the 2004 Eastern States Exposition Post-secondary dairy judging contest. In addition she was a member of the 2004 first place senior dairy bowl team at National Junior Holstein Convention. Ploetz currently works at Will-Cara Farms in Black Creek, New York. Her responsibilities include assisting in feeding and ration balancing, assessing animal’s health and managing the fresh cow program. She also assists in making selection and mating decisions and organizes dairy records for the 100-head herd. As the GMS Summer Intern, Ploetz will process GMS herds and input data into the system. She will also work with the Field Evaluators in processing herds, assist with photo preparation of GMS cattle, and work extensively on the GMS video.
