ABS Global, Inc. Applies for USDA Approval of Genetic, Source and Age Process Verification Program

DEFOREST, WISCONSIN -October 7, 2005 – ABS Global, has applied to the USDA for approval of their Process Verification Program (PVP) for genetic, source and age verification of their Beef Supply Chain Services Program.

ABS is the first bovine genetics company to develop and apply for the USDA Process Verification Program for genetic, source and age verification. “We want our Beef Supply Chain Services Program to be recognized as the leader in an industry that is quickly changing to meet the demands of the domestic and international marketplace. Tighter controls and a truly verifiable program are necessary to allow our customers to capture the most value from their quality cattle. Working together with IMI Global and their USVERIFIED product, ABS Global navigated the significant steps of development of the USDA PVP,” said Doug Frank, Beef Product Manager for ABS. Frank adds “the fact that the genetic component will be non-breed specific opens up the availability of these services to any of our U.S. cattle producers today.”

According to Leann Saunders, IMI Global Vice President, "An effective PVP program like the one developed by ABS Global gives everyone in the beef industry more confidence in their genetic, source and age verification programs and significantly reduces risk when purchasing cattle. It gives ABS Global a distinct market place advantage."

Dwight Williams, ABS Beef Division Manager, stated, "ABS Global has a strong presence with beef producers through our Independent Sales Representatives across the United States. Many of those Representatives have been trained to facilitate communication between the cow/calf and feedlot segments. With a year of providing Beef Supply Chain Services to the industry, we are eager and prepared to raise the bar and meet needs of the marketplace and potential new marketing opportunities by verifying age, source and genetics of cattle being listed through our program to potential buyers. This effort ties in with our vision of Pasture to Plate Genetics™."

ABS Global, the largest bovine reproductive services company in the world, has wholly owned business units or joint venture marketing operations in Canada, the United Kingdom, Italy, France, Australia, Mexico, Chile, Brazil, Argentina and Ireland.
