SUPER SIRE SHOTTLE TRIUMPHS IN THE TRIPLE STAKESDEFOREST,
WISCONSIN -August 24, 2005 – ABS Global sire 29HO12209 Picston SHOTTLE is making headlines again – one of the ladies in his life has given birth to triplets . . . and they are all heifers!
Scott Bentley, ABS Global Dairy Product Manager, has high hopes for these three calves stating, "We hope that, as these calves grow and mature, it will continue to show the high calibre of genetics that SHOTTLE can pass on to his progeny." AA United Kingdom dairy farmer Melvin Shepherd, pictured with the dam, Meldamar Romeo Heather 3, is extremely happy with the results. “The calves are very healthy and thriving, and there were no problems during calving,” he says. "Heather has never looked better and is milking extremely well." Completing the family picture at Wiggin Farm, located in the United Kingdom, are Melvin’s wife, Diane, and sons Mark (left) and Darren – plus Heather and her three young heifers. The odds of getting triplets are about one in every 7,500-10,000 births – but heifer triplets pushes the odds up to about one in every 60,000 to 80,000 births, according ABS mathematicians. Andrew Rutter, United Kingdom Breeding Program Manager, says, "The 160 cow herd averages 9,100 kgs, with 15 EX and 62 VG Holsteins." The herd plans to continue to use SHOTTLE semen and other ABS bulls in the future. And the odds of getting triplets from SHOTTLE again? "About one in 150,000 to 200,000 units from him should result in triplets," says Rutter, adding, "But the odds are considerably longer for another set of heifers."
