TOURS FACILITATE INFORMATION EXCHANGEDEFOREST, WISCONSIN -November 7, 2002 - ABS Global recently sponsored three tours which facilitated the discussion of excellent ABS Progeny in all management styles and the exchange of ideas of participants from around the world.
The tours, arranged by the Progeny Promotions Department at ABS, took place during a ten-day period surrounding World Dairy Expo. There were a total of 38 dairies visited in four different states by 80 participants from fifteen different countries. The dairies ranged from small family farms to large 10,000 plus cow operations, and each had a unique cow or management practice for the participants to observe and learn about.
"We were able to showcase more than just exceptional ABS-sired daughters during these tours," said Progeny Promotions Manager, Marci Walker. "We visited farms that in addition to featuring outstanding cattle had unique management practices, including manure methane processing and an on-farm operating cheese plant."
The first tour was the California Daughter Tour, which occurred from September 25th to the 28th. Twenty dairies and 80 ABS-sired daughters were toured during those few days. Daughters of ABS sires CONVINCER, MACHOMAN, PIPPEN and ROY were admired by the attendees.
September 30th and October 1st was the Large Herds Tour. This tour included five dairies within Wisconsin. Not only were daughters by ABS sire JUSTY well thought of by the participants, but they were also impressed by the consistency of Type in the herds which resulted from use of ABS Global's Genetic Management System.
The final excursion hosted by ABS was the Seed Stock Tour. From October 6th to the 9th this group toured dairy operations in Wisconsin, Iowa and Minnesota from which ABS sources it's genetic line-up. The dairies viewed by participants during this trip also featured excellent daughters by ABS sires REVENUE, ROY, CONVINCER, LANTZ, DECISION, and JUSTY.
"I enjoyed my time on the Seed Stock Tour and was impressed with ABS' offerings," said Chuck Ripp, co-owner of Ripp's Dairy Valley. "ABS offers products and services to help producers meet their goals efficiently, no matter what their management style."
